OUR HISTORY

Origins

On September 10, 1972,

Pastor T. Thomas stepped off a Boeing 747 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and stepped onto American soil for the very first time. After spending some time learning, working, raising a family, and attending some more bible schools, Pastor T. Thomas attended the 58th General Assembly of the Church of God a convention that would change his and several others' lives forever.

There, he met the missionary William Pospisil. Pastor T. Thomas invited Pospisil and his wife, along with Pastor Joseph C. Joseph, to his house for a get-together. Pastor T. Thomas expressed his desire to kickstart a new church ministry, to which he received much encouragement from both men of God. The next Sunday afternoon, on August 17, 1980, William Pospisil inaugurated a small local church ministry, designating Pastor T. Thomas to lead them. They were a small group; only three families were a part of the church. In the following year, during the month of January, the group was admitted into the Church of God community, naming themselves: East Dallas Church of God.

EDCOG

Construction began on the new sanctuary on Scyene Road in 1991. On the first Sunday of 1991—January 5, 1992— the 17 families of East Dallas Church of God moved into their new home. For almost 25 years, the congregation continued to nurture and grow within EDCOG.

The Move

Discussion of creating a new sanctuary to accommodate a growing number of families had been ongoing for quite a bit of time since 2009. In March 2010, three acres of land had been bought in Rowlett, near the then-new George Bush Turnpike. Construction began in 2016, and it ended early 2017. However, a problem arose. The church would no longer be located in East Dallas, so the name wouldn't fit. Several name ideas and suggestions were thrown around until finally, a consensus on a particular name was reached:
